Dr. Russell Kirby is a doctorally trained human geographer with post-doctoral training in epidemiology. He is a highly experienced perinatal and pediatric epidemiologist, and maternal and child health professional. Dr. Kirby has expertise in population health informatics, geographic information systems, and public health surveillance, focusing on population-based research concerning pregnancy outcomes, birth defects and developmental disabilities. He has been involved with birth defects surveillance for over 25 years, and participated in several studies examining the prevalence and characteristics of children with developmental disabilities, including the CDC Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network (ADDM), which he served from 2003-2008 as Principal Investigator for the Alabama study site and is a continuing consultant/collaborator. Dr. Kirby is a very congenial collaborator with peer-reviewed publications involving more than 300 different co-authors.
