Dr. Carol Lilly has been a core faculty member of the Department of Pediatrics since 1995 and is currently the Division Chief of the Division of Child Development and Neurology. She is responsible for coordinating required pediatric residency training for Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics and Medical Student Education. Dr. Lilly co-directs a Child Abuse Medicine elective with Dr. Bill Brooks and Dr. Sally Smith for pediatrics residents. She has co-developed a collaborative educational model within the Division of Child Development via cross-training of School and Clinical Psychology Graduate Interns with Pediatric Residents and Medical Students. She has demonstrated effectiveness in advocacy and program development for vulnerable, under-served populations and children with special health care needs. Dr. Lilly is currently the medical director of the Bay Area Early Intervention Program, the Children's Medical Services Growth Clinic and the Polk, Hardee and Highlands County Child Protection Team.
Dr. Lilly received her MD at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in 1983. After completing her Pediatric Residency training at Monmouth Medical Center in 1987 and having received a National Health Service Corp Scholarship for medical school, Dr. Lilly practiced as a Pediatrician in Bethel Alaska from 1990 to 1994. She directed specialty medical follow-up for children with special health care needs and served as a medical consultant to the Alaska Early Intervention Program. Dr. Lilly also functioned as the service chief for pediatrics and the medical staff president for the local hospital. During her stay, she developed and implemented a Community Integrated Services System Grant for High Risk Infant Follow-Up as well as the Regional Child Abuse Protocol. At the conclusion of her service commitment, Dr. Lilly came to the University of South Florida. Since her arrival in Florida, she has served as a volunteer board member for a number of community agencies. Dr. Lilly has been an active member of the Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is currently on the Statewide Committee on Child Abuse/Neglect. She has served as the editor of the Florida Pediatrician, and was also elected as the District Representative for District V of the Florida Pediatric Society (Florida Chapter of the AAP) from 2001 to 2003.
Dr. Lilly is an Academic Pediatrician with recognized clinical expertise and interests related to Children with Special Health Care Needs, Child Development, Pediatric Nutritional Disorders, Child Abuse and Public Health. She is the Chief of the Division of General Pediatrics.
